As of midnight on March 31, 2025, the Right of Citizenship fee for adults applying for Canadian citizenship has increased.
👉 New Fee: $119.75 (was $100 before)
👉 This is in addition to the regular processing fee of $530.
Total cost now for adults:
➡️ $649.75 (Earlier it was $630)
✅ Who Needs to Pay the New Fee?
You need to pay the new fee if:
- You applied for citizenship on or after March 31, 2025
- You are 18 years or older
You don’t need to pay the increased fee if:
- You submitted your online application before March 31 and already paid $100
- You are applying as a minor (under 18 years old) – their fee stays the same at $100
⚠️ If you applied by paper before March 31, you may have to pay the difference in fee.
🧒 What About Children?
If you’re applying for citizenship for a child under 18:
- The fee remains $100
- No extra charges were added
How Can You Become a Canadian Citizen?
To become a Canadian citizen, you must:
- Be a permanent resident (PR)
- Have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) in the last 5 years
- File taxes in Canada (if required)
- Pass the citizenship test (for ages 18 to 54)
- Show language skills in English or French (minimum CLB level 4)
👶 Minors do not need to meet the 3-year stay rule.
🎓 Citizenship Ceremony
Once approved, you’ll be invited to a citizenship ceremony, either online or in person.
📢 At the ceremony, everyone 14 and older must take the Oath of Citizenship.
