This could change how you deal with visa refusals.
Starting July 29, 2025, IRCC will proactively include officer decision notes with certain refusal letters.
Currently, this applies only to temporary resident applications.
Which applications will receive officer decision notes?
Refusal notes will be included with decisions on the following application types (including extensions):
- Study permits
- Work permits
- Visitor visas (TRVs – not eTAs or TRPs)
- Visitor record extensions
No more waiting weeks for GCMS notes.
These notes explain the real reason your application was refused, straight from the officer who made the call. Whether it’s about funds, travel history, or purpose of visit, you’ll now see it clearly.
Applicants who want a deeper explanation can still request Global Case Management System (GCMS) notes, but that process can take several weeks.
With this update, you get key information instantly with your refusal letter.
Note: This is not available yet if you applied through the new IRCC portal.
This is a big win for applicants.
