Alberta Holds Two Draws in the Month of April with CRS Requirements in the 300’s.

In the month of April, two Alberta draws have taken place so far. This has invited a total 320 Express Entry Candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence.

Covid19 certainly hasn’t put any brakes for Alberta draws.

The details for the Provincial Nominee Program draws was recently released by the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) from April 1st & April 14th.

The first Alberta Express Entry Stream draw this month invited a total of 120 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

This did not require the candidates to have a job offer in order to be invited, but they did need to have their profiles in the Federal Express Entry System.

Express Entry Candidates also need to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 381. These points are calculated based on the candidate’s human capital figures and personal history such as; age, work experience, education & official language ability.

The April 14th draw saw a drop in the CRS Requirements to 353, where 200 Express Entry Candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination from Alberta.

Any of the candidates receiving a provincial nomination will receive an additional 600 CRS points towards their overall score. This guarantees them receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence in the next Federal Express Entry draw.

Since Canada’s measures to prevent coronavirus came into effect on March 18th, Express Entry Draws have typically been inviting on Canadian Experience Class Candidates and Candidates who received the provincial nomination, such as those invited though the Alberta Express Entry.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for Alberta Express Entry Stream?

Express Entry Candidates are required to have work experience in the field/occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development in order to be eligible for an invitation.

It is important to note, while it not necessary to have a job offer to be eligible, the AINP says it may give priority to candidates who meet the following three criteria:

A Job offer and/or work Experience in Alberta.
A degree from a Canadian Post Secondary Institution with a valid Job offer
A parent, child or sibling living in the province.
This year has seen Alberta issue 1,207 invitations to Express Entry Candidates. In 2019, Alberta issued a total of 6,884 invitations through the stream.

Alberta does not publish or declare the exact criteria under which it chooses the profiles from the Express Entry pool. They also do not have a published list of in-demand occupations.

Alberta’s Provincial Nomination allocations for the year 2020 have not been released yet.
