How Does the Alberta Immigration Process Work?

Here’s a very simple explanation:

  1. First Step: Expression of Interest (EOI)
    • You create a profile to show you are interested in moving to Alberta.
  2. Second Step: Invitation
    • If Alberta likes your profile, they will send you an invitation to apply for a nomination.
  3. Third Step: Nomination Application
    • You submit a full application to Alberta. If they approve you, you get a provincial nomination.
  4. Final Step: Applying for PR
    • With a nomination, you can apply for Permanent Residence (PR) directly with Canada’s immigration department (IRCC).

If you are in a stream connected to Express Entry:

  • You get 600 extra points in your Express Entry profile.
  • Then, you will likely get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for PR much faster!

Why is Alberta’s Immigration Program Popular?

  • Lower CRS score requirement compared to other provinces.
  • Targeted job sectors like tech, hospitality, law enforcement, and general trades.
  • Faster processing in some pathways.
  • Growing economy needing skilled workers.

Q1. What is an Expression of Interest (EOI)?
It’s like raising your hand to say you want to move to Alberta. You submit your details but it’s not a full application yet.

Q2. What is the difference between an Invitation and a Nomination?

  • Invitation: Alberta asks you to send a full application.
  • Nomination: After you apply and Alberta approves you, they officially recommend you for PR.

Q3. What does getting 600 points mean in Express Entry?
If you get a nomination linked to Express Entry, you will receive 600 extra points. This boosts your chances of getting invited for PR very quickly!

Q4. Can I apply directly to Alberta without Express Entry?
Yes! Some streams, like the Alberta Opportunity Stream, are base PNPs. You apply directly without needing an Express Entry profile.

Q5. How often does Alberta send out invitations?
There is no fixed schedule. Draws happen based on Alberta’s labour needs and available spaces.
