Faster Work Permit Processing
A Faster Work Permit is now available to Foreign workers across 10 Occupations.
Canada has accelerated the process of hiring foreign workers in the field of Agriculture, Trucking Operations & Food Processing.
Canadian Employers can now skip past the methodic time-consuming step in the work permit process if they are hiring foreign workers in the 10 Occupations falling under; Food Processing, Trucking Operations & Agriculture.This has resulted in Canada renouncing the necessary advertisement requirement for the “Labor Market Impact Assessment” (LMIA) for high priority occupations.
Earlier, Canadian Employers seeking to get LMIA needed to prove the unavailability of a Canadian worker before offering it to a foreign worker. This was done by advertising the position across various Job portals and other platforms for a period of atleast 4 weeks, and sometimes leading up to 3 months.
From March 20, recruitment requirements for any pending and future LIMA applications will be waived off for the following 10 priority occupations:
1. Transport Truck Drivers (NOC 7511)
2. Agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers (NOC 8252)
3. Butchers, meat cutters and fishmongers-retail and wholesale (NOC 6331)
4. General Farm Workers (NOC 8431)
5. Nursery and Greenhouse Workers (NOC 8432)
6. Harvesting labourers (NOC 8611)
7. Fish and seafood plant workers (NOC 9463)
8. Labourers in food, beverage and associated products processing (NOC 9617)
9. Labourers in fish and seafood processing (NOC 9618)
10. Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers and related workers (NOC 9462)
Any Truck Drivers who are located in a province that requires a “Mandatory Entry-Level Training Requirement” must already have the Certificate in hand at the time of receiving their work permit. The Provinces with these requirements are:
1. British Columbia
2. Alberta
3. Saskatchewan
4. Manitoba
5. Ontario
6. Quebec
As of currently, any agriculture stream high wage and low wage LIMA applications from the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut & Yukon must be submitted to the Ontario Processing Center.
