The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), is set to announce a new immigration pathway for Canada on March 27, 2023. At the Empire Club of Canada in Toronto, he will deliver a keynote speech and unveil the new permanent residency (PR) pathway at 11:30 am EST.
During the event, Minister Fraser will engage with NGOs, business leaders, and civil society organizations to discuss how Canada’s immigration policies can assist employers in addressing the country’s labor shortages across various sectors.
Although details on the PR pathway are not yet clear, it is anticipated that the announcement will focus on attracting skilled workers to help fill gaps in the labor market. The Minister’s consultations with key stakeholders suggest that the policy may involve collaboration to ensure that immigration measures align with the needs of different sectors and communities.
The announcement is expected to generate considerable interest among individuals and organizations involved in immigration and employment in Canada. It will be interesting to see what specific measures the Minister unveils during the event.
In my opinion, this may have something to do with the BillC-19 implementation, which has been in the works since last year and has been part of most of his talks and media releases in recent times.
Minister has also stressed the need of filing labor shortages in specific industries and encouraging immigrants away from the main urban centers like Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary to other provinces.
As part of his mandate letter, he was tasked with coming up with programs within Express Entry to facilitate the PR pathways for international students and foreign workers and this new announcement may well be indicating the accomplishment of that pathway.
Either way, a new PR pathway is always an exciting proposition and I can’t wait for the date/time to arrive.
