Recently, it was reported that around 700 international students in Canada had been issued deportation orders because they submitted fraudulent offer letters from a specific college. All of these applications were processed by a single consultant, who defrauded these students, and they were not even aware of it. Most believed the agent and came to Canada, but they had to change their colleges because the acceptance letters were fake. They completed their studies, applied for post-graduate work permits, and completed their work periods in Canada. But when they applied for permanent residency, they were caught.

The CBSA identified the agent during their investigation and issued deportation letters to all 700 students. This situation is unfortunate and has put these students in a bad situation. Though it is easy to blame the agent, one must not overlook that the IRCC approved these applications and did not validate the acceptance letter. It is disheartening to see how five years of their lives have been wasted, and these students and their families have to bear the consequences.

This incident shows how fraud in the immigration industry can disrupt people’s lives. As an expert in Canadian immigration matters, I believe it is essential to spread awareness among students about the importance of being vigilant and choosing the right consultant or agent. Moreover, the IRCC needs to improve its validation process to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

If you or someone you know has worked with this specific agent, it is crucial to get legal help and figure out a way forward. Deportation is not the only option, and certain provisions within the law can be used to file for a stay order for deportation and file for judicial review or humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

It is essential to remember that committing fraud is a serious offense and can have long-term consequences. Therefore, choosing the right agent, following the correct process, and being aware of your rights as an international student are crucial. Let us hope that the authorities take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents and ensure justice is served to those affected.
